In this Advanced Flirting Tips article we’re gonna take a look or rather a sniff at the role smell plays in flirting and why some people are just irresistible to one person but just the opposite to another.

Scientists have been investigating the  ’vomeronasal organ’ in the noses of rats. Apparently rats use this organ to smell out the pheremones of other rats.  They are looking for rats who have different immunities from their own. The pheremones vary in flavor and smell according to what’s going on in the immune system.

It is thought that humans too use this ‘sniff and tell’ method to know who is right for them. Remember flirting is really a natural system designed to help us discern, attract and mate with someone with whom we will produce strong babies.

If you have a greater immunity to lung disease and my genes are not so strong, that is gonna play a part in the pheremone decision.   We are literally led by our pheremones.

An enterprising Swiss biologist Claus Wedekind of the University of Bern did an experiment on women and men’s sweaty t-shirts.  Scientists had discovered that we have this molecule that carries the coding of our genetic make up, including immunities.  He got all these women to smell sweaty t-shirts taken off men who were wearing no deodorant or other perfume type maskers.

The women were asked to say which smells they preferred.  Most of them chose the t-shirts from men who had immune systems very different from their own.

However when women are pregnant they are more attracted to men who have similar immune systems which represents Natures magic.  A pregnant woman doesn’t want to attract a mate, but she does need help and protection [an imprint from our primitive selves].  Instead she is more drawn to family because they represent a sense of security for her baby.

We can’t control our pheremones, so when next you’re flirting up close with someone and they seem to pull away, and stop responding, don’t feel bad… it’s probably that you just don’t smell right and she doesn’t even know that’s why she’s not attracted.  That’s why we wear perfumes and after shaves. We are trying to create some attractive smell that might compensate for our mismatched pheremones.  Not a great idea to mask natures natural smell signals.

Flirting is about sending out signals and receiving them. As we go through the world we’re always sniffing for a partner, unconsciously.  So just know that somewhere on your flirting journey you’re gonna meet someone who thinks you smell just as desirable to her as she does to you.  And if you stick together, you’ll ensure stronger, healtier babies.

Flirting is a natural part of life so carry on flirting and enjoy smelling the roses!
