Flirt
Zone What are you doing to save the earth? What on earth has this to do with flirting? The answer is nothing overtly.. other than that it's my site and this is something I believe in. But when you think about it, learning to live more in harmony with our planet and respecting nature is all part of becoming a nicer person... the kind of person that other people warm to!!! And if we don't have a world worth living in, we certainly won't have a world worth flirting in!!! Over the last few months, I 've received endless petitions from people about the Brazilian rainforest. I know it is a sin to destroy that which feeds our world with oxygen and keeps the eco system balanced. As humans, we somehow seem to have gotten the idea that we are superior to all else that lives and exists in this world. And in that vein, we have laboured long and hard to 'harness' and 'subdue' the forces of the earth. We keep animals in cruel conditions so that our fat bellies can be full. We dig up plants because we label them 'weeds' and we pave over the earth that feeds us with concrete. We attempt to subdue the oceans and since that first attempt by Canute to hold back the waves, we haven't yet succeeded. Else, why would we in the UK have suffered so much flooding this winter? I am not a vegetarian, but I do make a point of only eating meat that has been reared with respect for the animal's comfort and well being. I once saw a programme where chickens were taken from a horrid factory farm and picked up six at a time, by the necks and slammed into what looked like a filing cabinet drawer, ready for transport to the slaughterhouse. This is inhumane and unnecessary. Personally if that's what has to happen to make things like Kentucky Chicken, I refuse to eat it. And maybe you want to think about how you can prevent this slaughter and unkindness. If you make changes for no other reason, I ask you to think... what if your changing your attitude could mean that you or your children get to live their life out in relative peace? What if you doing one thing like refusing to buy goods made from wood that comes from the rainforest means that your family don't get flooded out in the near future? Think of yourself and be selfish.. think of how you could save your family and yourself from the horrors awaiting us and do something constructive today. Here's a few things you can do to contribute Recycle bottles and paper ******Read 'The last Hours of Ancient Sunlight' by Thom Hartmann it's available on Amazon****** Save the RainForest Brazilian congress is now voting on a project that will reduce the Amazon forest to 50% of its size. (In November Greenpeace is boycotting hardwood from that region). The area to be deforested is 4 times the size of Portugal and would be mainly used for agriculture and pastures for livestock. All the wood is to be sold to international markets in the form of wood chips, by multinational companies. The truth is that the soil in the Amazon forest is useless without the forest itself. Its quality is very acidic and the region is prone to constant floods. At this time more than 160.000 square kilometres deforested with the same purpose, are abandoned and in the process of becoming deserts. We cannot let this happen. Tell all your friends about this. Just start a discussion about the floods, the weather, global warming, the state of the planet.. How about using it as a conversation piece. Read up on ecology, check out the Global Rennaissance Alliance [search the web] and you may have something to talk about more than the latest movies or fashion trends. A bunch of writers got together to produce a book designed as a companion to a big night out. Big Night Out is a fantastic book which would make a brilliant present or holiday reading. It's got short stories from writers like Nick Hornby, Jessica Adams, Candace Bushnell and other greats plus recipes for hangovers from Jamie Oliver, tips on beauty from Joan Collins and Kate Moss and loads and loads of stuff. A real compendium. All proceeds to this book go to the charity War Child which works to help kids in Kosovo get over the stress of living in a warzone. What do you think we could do to save our planet?
